Catherine Nguyen Dauphin is a Eurasian writer-director and actor based in London, with Vietnamese heritage. Her work focuses on female and queer stories, especially taking place in cross-cultural spaces.
She started working in the camera department in documentaries and commercials in Paris, before directing some of her own short films (The Art of Picture Taking, 2013, Anniversary, 2017, Coffee and Water, 2021) and documentaries (Three Borders, 2019, Hometowns, 2025). She wrote, directed and acted in the miniseries What We Talk About When We Talk About Sex (2020, Series Mania). She has over 10 years of experience in the Film industry and has worked alongside directors and actors such as Apichatpong Weerasethakul, Olivier Assayas, Vicky Krieps, Emily Atef, and Gaspard Ulliel.
Her feature script Double Negative was selected at Torino Film Lab 2024, and she was part of the 2026 inaugural Great Migrations Development Lab by Milktea, supported by the BFI, for her sci-fi feature Dream Rider.
She dreams of living by the sea and changes hair colour when she feels too many feelings. Her dreams and grocery lists are a mix of English, French and mysterious.
